McKinney, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Nationwide Tour's 2008 season will end with its most lucrative event ever: the $1 million Nationwide Tour Championship. It will be the first time in the developmental circuit's 17-year history that a $1 million prize purse will be offered. The top-60 players on the money list will vie for the tour-record $180,000 first-place check from Nov. 6-9 at TPC Craig Ranch in Dallas, Texas. "One of our key goals the last few years has been to elevate the Nationwide Tour Championship," said Bill Calfee, the tour's president. "With today's announcement of a $1 million purse and our partnership with ... TPC Craig Ranch, there is no doubt we have accomplished that for 2008." This season's Nationwide Tour Championship, won by Richard Johnson, offered a $775,000 prize purse. Johnson claimed $139,500 for the victory and vaulted to the top of the money list. The total purse for the 2007 event increased from a previous high of $750,000 in 2006. Next year's $1 million purse will be $350,000 more than was offered in 2005.
