Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - J.P. Dumont and Martin Erat each scored a pair of goals as the
Nashville Predators outplayed the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 4-1 win at Nationwide Arena.
Erat also had two assists, and Dumont added one for Nashville, which beat Columbus for the 10th time in a row. Jason Arnott had two assists, and Chris Mason stopped 29 shots for the Predators, who have won five of their last six.
David Vyborny scored his first goal of the season for the Blue Jackets, who dropped their fourth straight game. Pascal Leclaire made 27 saves for Columbus, which lost 4-3 at Nashville in a shootout on Saturday.
The Blue Jackets couldn't come up with any answer to Nashville's play after the Predators broke a 1-1 tie in the second part of the first period.
With 7:27 left to play in the stanza, Vernon Fiddler passed to Erat, who skated through the slot from right to left. Erat held onto the puck long enough to get an angle on Leclaire, and shot it into the open part of the net.
The score stayed like that clear through the second period, in which the teams scuffled more than they scored. A little more than seven minutes into it, the Blue Jackets' Jared Boll and Predators' Scott Nichol squared off, earning major fighting penalties. As soon as they were done, several other fights almost broke out.
But Columbus couldn't channel the energy into goals, and Nashville stayed persistent. With 8:17 left in the game, Dumont put the Predators up two with his second goal of the game.
The Blue Jackets' Ole-Kristian Tollefsen slipped in his own zone while trying to handle the puck, and turned it over to Arnott. Arnott centered to Erat, who blasted a shot on Leclaire, which was deflected. Dumont, though, was right there to put the rebound in net for a 3-1 Nashville lead.
Mason made some great saves in the following minute to help Nashville hang onto the momentum. Erat added the Predators' fourth goal on an empty-netter with 28 seconds left.
Columbus was able to answer in the first period, when they tied the game 15 seconds after Nashville scored the game's opening goal. The Predators got on the board 6:39 into the first period, when Dumont caught Leclaire and Columbus' defense out of position. Leclaire had moved left to block the angle Arnott had on the right side of the net. Arnott, though, shuffled the puck over to Dumont on the net, which wasn't covered, and Dumont easily one-timed it in.
But at the 6:54 mark, Vyborny picked up a loose puck along the right-hand boards in Nashville's zone, skated left, and wristed one past Mason.
