Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - Despite many opportunities, Sweden and Canada remained scoreless at the half in a World Cup semifinal at PGE Park on Sunday.
Both teams are looking to advance to their first-ever World Cup final where they will face Germany next Sunday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
The Germans knocked off the U.S., 3-0 earlier on Sunday.
The loser will play the Americans for third place on Saturday at the same venue as the final.
Victoria Svensson should have given the Swedes a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute, but she failed to convert a ball that Canada 'keeper Taryn Swiatek couldn't cover up.
Sweden's Malin Andersson nearly broke the scoreless draw just moments before. She curled a free kick toward the goal, but Swiatek knocked the ball off the bar and out of play.
Christine Sinclair nearly put the Canadians ahead in the 36th minute, but her shot taken from outside the area, sailed centimeters over the bar.
Charmaine Hooper had a chance to give Canada an early lead in the seventh minute. The captain played a lose ball just outside the six, but her point- blank shot was knocked away by Sweden 'keeper Caroline Joensson.
The lethal combination of Svensson and Hanna Ljungberg nearly hooked up for a goal moments after Hooper's miss.
Svensson played a cross right in front of the goal, but Ljungberg's header was sent just wide.
The 26-year-old Svensson, who came into the match with a team-high three goals and two assists for the tournament, was in attacking mode early. She tallied four shots in the first half.
Joensson started in goal after sitting out the quarterfinal match. Sweden's coaching staff opted to sit the 'keeper after she had taken medication for an undisclosed illness.
