Kings try to crown Stars in Dallas

(My Sportsbook) - The Los Angeles Kings will attempt to recover from back-to- back losses tonight when they travel to Dallas to play the Stars at American Airlines Center.

However, tonight's task is a tall one, as the Kings lost all eight of their meetings with the Pacific Division-rival Stars last season. Part of the reason the Stars were able to dominate was early goals, as the club outscored the Kings 13-2 in the first period last season.

Los Angeles had actually bested Dallas in six of eight matchups in 2005-06, but have dropped four straight in Dallas.

LA began the season with a two-game split against Anaheim in London, England before falling to the St. Louis Blues, 5-3, on Saturday. The Kings carried a 3-1 edge into the third frame before allowing four third-period goals.

Dustin Brown scored twice in the loss, while Anze Kopitar had three assists. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier yielded four goals on 31 shots in the loss in what was the second start of his career.

Brown added an assist in the loss for a career-high three-point night, and led the Kings in goals (six) and power-play markers (4) against Dallas last year.

One other bright spot for Los Angeles was the play of Mike Cammalleri, who lit the lamp against the Blues to give him a goal in each of the Kings' first three games and four total on the season.

The Kings were defeated by an Andy Murray-led Blues squad. Murray, making his return to LA, guided the Kings from the start of the 1999-2000 season through his firing in March of 2006.

It was the first time the Kings dropped a home-opener at Staples Center since its 1999 opening. After tonight's road tilt, where the club is technically 0-1 after dropping a game as the "visitor" in London, the Kings return home for three straight contests.

The Stars fell to 1-2-0 with Saturday's 5-1 setback to Nashville. Both of Dallas' losses have come on the road this year, while their lone victory came at home against Boston last Friday. The Stars went 28-11-2 at home last year and 22-14-5 on the road.

Krystofer Barch scored the lone goal against the Preds for Dallas, while netminder Mike Smith made 17 saves in his first appearance of the year. Marty Turco has started the Stars' first two games of the season and should be back in net tonight.

Mike Modano was held without a point against Nashville, keeping him five shy of tying Phil Housley for the all-time U.S. born points lead (1,232). Modano has 35 goals and 43 assists in 73 career games versus the Kings.

Philippe Boucher was Dallas' leading scorer last season against the Kings, notching nine points (5g, 4a) against them.

The Stars stay home to host Calgary on Friday.
