Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Matt Cullen, Cory Stillman and Justin Williams recorded a goal and two assists each as Carolina crushed Toronto, 7-1, at Air Canada Centre.

Ray Whitney, Eric Staal and Scott Walker added a goal and a helper each for the Hurricanes, who improved to 2-1-1. Rod Brind'Amour added a pair of assists and Cam Ward stopped 27-of-28 shots to earn his second win of the season.

Bryan McCabe posted the lone goal for the Maple Leafs, who last suffered a six-goal loss on January 20 at Pittsburgh. Vesa Toskala allowed seven goals on 39 shots in defeat.

Leafs forward Jason Blake, who announced on Monday that he was suffering from chronic myelogenous leukemia, was in the lineup and skated on the second shift of the game. He did not register a point but earned an ovation from the crowd prior to the face-off.

Walker added his first of the season, and Carolina's third man-advantage goal of the game at 1:35 of the third for a four-goal Hurricanes lead.

Jeff Hamilton followed with another power-play tally, his second goal of the year at 5:07 and it was 6-1 for the visitors, and Staal picked up his fourth of the year with a little less than six minutes remaining for a 7-1 contest.

"It's frustrating. They're a very fast team," said Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle. "They do the little things very well. They're always forechecking and put constant pressure on the defense. It was tough to hold them down tonight."

McCabe blasted home a shot on the power play at 4:21 of the first to give the Leafs a 1-0 edge. Mats Sundin held at the top of the left circle until a gap opened up in the slot to pass back to McCabe for the one-timer. The helper pulled the Toronto captain into a tie with Darryl Sittler for most points all- time as a Leaf with 916.

Williams tied the game at 6:46 with a wrister under the crossbar and Stillman added a power-play goal with 24 seconds to go to put the Canes up 2-1.

Carolina took a 3-1 lead with 8:19 remaining in the second, With Leafs forward Darcy Tucker off for interference, Stillman's shot from the left side was tipped in the slot by Cullen past Toskala, who came out of the crease anticipating a pass.

Whitney was sprung on a breakaway with 2:37 to go, and the veteran skated alone down the right wing and tucked a shot between Toskala's pads for a 4-1 Carolina edge.

"We regrouped after the first goal happened, stepped up our game," Ward said. "They got into penalty trouble, and we took over the play. It was an excellent 60 minutes."

Game Notes

Toronto won three of four meetings last season...Sundin also tied Sittler for second in franchise history with 527 assists...Carolina leads the NHL with six power-play goals...Sundin remained on 389 goals with Toronto, also tying him with Sittler for tops in Toronto history.
