Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Martin Gerber made 35 stops to record his first shutout of the season to lead Ottawa over the New York Rangers, 2-0, at Scotiabank Place. Daniel Alfredsson and Andrej Meszaros tallied for the Senators, who have begun the season with three straight wins. Henrik Lundqvist allowed just two goals on 33 shots for the Rangers, who were coming off a season-opening win Thursday against Florida. Ottawa took a 2-0 lead after one period on a pair of goals 53 seconds apart. Meszaros potted his first of the season while short-handed at 4:47 off a feed from Mike Fisher, and Alfredsson scored his fourth at 5:40 when he found a lucky bounce off the end boards and one-timed the puck home from the edge of the right circle. Lundqvist stopped 17 shots in the middle stanza, including several from close range, to keep the Ranger deficit at two goals. Gerber continued to stand tall as the visitors poured 13 shots on net in the third but could not break through. The Rangers added an extra attacker with just over a minute to play in regulation, but any comeback hopes were stifled when defenseman Michal Rozsival was whistled for a trip with seven seconds remaining. Game Notes Ottawa won three of four meetings last season and six of eight since 2005...Rangers forward Sean Avery left the game in the first after absorbing an elbow by Ottawa's Chris Neil to his upper body and did not return...Gerber picked up his eighth career shutout, improved to 13-0-2 in his last 15 starts and upped his record to 5-1 lifetime against the Rangers...Ottawa has killed off all 19 short-handed situations this season.
