(My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Red Wings open up the road portion of their 2007-08 schedule tonight when they head to Chicago and the United Center to battle the Blackhawks.
Detroit bested the Anaheim Ducks in a shootout on Wednesday, as Jiri Hudler netted the only goal of the extra action -- beating Ilya Bryzgalov with a backhander -- to give the Red Wings a 3-2 victory.
Corey Perry was Anaheim's last chance in the shootout, but Dominik Hasek smothered the stuff attempt to preserve the win.
Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist while Tomas Holmstrom also lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who were defeated by Anaheim in six games in last year's Western Conference finals. Hasek finished the game with 13 saves and stopped all three skaters in the shootout.
Following tonight's contest, Detroit returns home for three straight contests.
The Blackhawks will be looking for their first goal of the season when they hit the ice tonight.
Chicago made its season debut on Thursday, and was blanked by the Minnesota Wild, 1-0. The Blackhawks failed to get any of their 27 shots by Wild netminder Niklas Backstrom.
Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 23 shots in the loss, while 2007 No. 1 overall pick Patrick Kane made his NHL debut and finished the game with two shots and 16:44 of ice time for the Blackhawks.
Lighting the lamp may be extra tough for the Blackhawks tonight, as forward Martin Havlat is doubtful for the contest with a right shoulder injury. Havlat played in Thursday's game and registered two shots.
Also, Tuomo Ruutu is questionable because of a knee ailment.
The Red Wings have absolutely owned Chicago in recent years, winning eight of nine and 15 of the last 17 matchups. Detroit has even been victorious in eight of its last 11 trips to the United Center.
