Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The United States Men's National Team suffered its fifth straight loss - it's longest streak since 1994 - with the latest being 4-2 to FIFA's No. 1 ranked Brazil on Sunday afternoon in a friendly at Soldier Field.
The American side went up 1-0 early on a Carlos Bocanegra goal in the 21st minute, but Brazil tied it 12 minutes later on an own-goal by defender Oguchi Onyewu. Lucio headed a Ronaldinho corner to give Brazil a 2-1 lead eight minutes after the break before Clint Dempsey tied up the score 20 minutes later for the U.S.
Brazil added a free kick goal by Rolandinho and a penalty kick goal by Elano in the final 15 minutes to close out the scoring.
The game started with the American side holding its own against the South American power. Bocanegra scored when he deflected a Landon Donovan corner kick past Brazil goalkeeper Doni early, it was the U.S. team's first corner kick of the game.
Brazil's equalizer came off an impressive buildup led to Ronaldinho placing a perfect pass to Kaka breaking into the American penalty area. The Brazilian star fired a shot on goal that was saved by a diving Tim Howard, but the rebound deflected off defender Onyewu and into the back of the net. Nine different Brazilians possessed the ball on the buildup that led to the equalizer.
That was how the first half ended before Lucio headed home a Ronaldinho corner kick in the 53rd minute. U.S. goalkeeper Howard was hurt on the play, apparently dislocating a finger on the crossbar, but he stayed in net for the remainder of the match.
Dempsey, who has been in good form for Fulham in the English Premier League, tied the score at two after Donovan played a great ball over the top to Steve Cherundolo who played a pass to Dempsey at the top of the box. Dempsey one- timed the pass into the far post netting.
The Brazilians answered quickly, with Ronaldinho firing a free kick goal over the defensive wall and into the side netting just two minutes later to make it 3-2.
Elano converted a penalty kick in injury time after Michael Bradley pulled down Julio Baptista to close out the scoring.
