=== Sooners impressive in season-opening win ===

Norman, OK (My Sportsbook) - Jason White tossed a career-high three touchdown passes after missing most of last season with a knee injury to lead top-ranked Oklahoma over North Texas, 37-3, in the opener for both teams at a refurbished Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. White completed 23-of-35 passes for 248 yards, while tossing one interception.

Jejuan Rankins caught two touchdown passes and Brandon Jones tallied 121 yards receiving with a score for the Sooners (1-0), who have won six straight season openers dating back to a 24-0 loss to Northwestern at Chicago's Soldier Field in 1997.

Head coach Bob Stoops, who is in his fifth season with the Sooners, is now 44-9 with Oklahoma and looking to guide the team to its second national championship under his leadership.

"I was very pleased for the most part," Stoops said.

Scott Hall only completed 5-of-16 passes for 71 yards for the Mean Green (0-1), who have won the last two Sun Belt Conference championships and ended last season on a good note with a victory over Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl.

The Sooners opened the scoring on the game's first possession and they never looked back. Trey DiCarlo capped the 10-play, 57-yard drive with a 37-yard field goal. Travis Wilson highlighted the drive with a 17-yard reception to the North Texas 26-yard line.

The two teams then exchanged punts, but the Sooners got the ball right back when Ja'Mel Branch fumbled the kick by Blake Ferguson and it was recovered by Jowahn Poteat.

Oklahoma took advantage of the turnover and only had to march 23 yards for its first touchdown of the season. White hit Rankins for a three-yard score in the left side of the end zone and the Sooners led 10-0.

The Sooners also scored on their first possession of the second quarter with a two-play, 84-yard drive to increase their margin to 17-0 when White hit Jones with a 64-yard touchdown strike.

Before the half ended, DiCarlo booted his second and third field goals of the game and the Sooners took a 23-0 advantage into the intermission.

With 8:29 left in the half, DiCarlo connected from 40 yards away and then with just 13 seconds remaining, the Groza Award candidate hit from 46 yards out.

"[Trey] was great," Stoops said. "He was given the game ball tonight. He hit the ball clean."

North Texas only gained 59 yards of offense in the first half.

"Offensively we were totally inept in the first half," Mean Green coach D.A. Dickey said. "We want to be a more balanced offensive team, to attack people with a lot of different formation."

The Sooners posted the sole points of the third quarter via a 13-yard touchdown pass from White to Travis Williams and the Sooners went ahead 30-0.

The Mean Green finally reached the scoreboard with 9:03 to play on a 34-yard field goal by Nick Bazaldua.

Oklahoma completed the scoring with 4:49 remaining in the game when Rankins hauled in a six-yard score from Paul Thompson.

Oklahoma outgained North Texas, 391-154, in total net offense.
