London, England (My Sportsbook) - Veteran United States goalie Kasey Keller signed with English Premier League club Fulham on Thursday.
Keller last played for Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, but he is very familiar with England's Premiership. After starting his European career in 1992 with Millwall, he had long stints with Leicester City and Tottenham.
"Its fantastic to be back in the Premiership after a couple of years' absence, and when the opportunity to join Fulham came up it was an exciting proposition that didn't take too much consideration," Keller said.
Fulham needed Keller after No. 1 goalkeeper Antti Niemi was injured before the first game of the season. Goalie Tony Warner has started Fulham's first three games but Keller could start Saturday when Fulham visits Aston Villa. Terms of his deal were not disclosed.
"I know that Fulham already has two quality goalkeepers, but I would like to think that I can add something to the squad in terms of its options, and I am really enthusiastic about this new challenge," Keller said.
The 37-year-old Keller started his European career in 1992 at Millwall, making nearly 200 appearances with the club. He joined Leicester City in 1996 and was with the team through 1999. Keller left England in 1999 to join Rayo Vallecano of Spain's La Liga for two seasons.
Keller returned to the Premiership in 2001 with Tottenham and remained with the club - with the exception of a four-game loan to Southampton in 2004 - until 2005.
Keller left England again for Germany's Borussia Monchengladbach in 2005 and was the team captain. His outstanding play helped Monchengladbach remain in the Bundesliga in his first season, but the club was relegated last year.
Keller has been with the U.S. for four World Cups and has played 102 games, the most for an American goalie. He joins fellow American teammates Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey and injured captain Brian McBride at Fulham.
"I'm delighted that Kasey has joined us and I'm sure that he'll be a great addition to the squad," Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez said. "Kasey is a proven professional with impeccable international credentials. It's vital that we have cover in all areas throughout the squad, and I think he will be a valuable asset to us over the course of the season."
