Gainesville, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Gators will be without freshman linebackers Channing Crowder and Taureen Charles for their season opener after the two were suspended on Saturday. Crowder and Charles were suspended for next Saturday's game on August 30 against San Jose State for their involvement in off-field fights. Both of them pleaded no contest to separate misdemeanor battery charges in June. Crowder was accused of punching and kicking a man on the ground outside a Gainesville nightclub, while teammate Steven Harris was also accused of knocking the man unconscious. Stevens was charged with felony battery. Charles is a redshirt freshman from Miami. He was charged with simple battery for apparently slamming a female friend into a computer desk and against a wall before shoving her to the floor in a dorm room. According to head coach Ron Zook, the players would be back on the field for the Gators' game at Miami-Florida on September 6. Harris, who faces an October 13 trial date, hasn't been allowed to practice with the Gators this preseason.
