Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Jesus Flores hit a game-tying solo homer in the ninth and Felipe Lopez knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly, as the
Washington Nationals rallied to beat the
Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-6, in the finale of a three-game series at Chase Field.
Flores finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and Ryan Church chipped in with a two-run homer for Washington, which earned its first victory in seven games between the clubs this year.
Jon Rauch (8-2) tossed an inning of relief to earn the win, allowing one run on two hits. Starter Mike Bacsik surrendered five runs on eight hits in just four innings.
Eric Byrnes and Mark Reynolds both homered for Arizona, which had a four-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the fourth time in its last 21 games. The club's lead over San Diego is down to three games in the NL West. The Padres beat Cincinnati on Sunday.
Jose Valverde (1-4) took the loss, blowing his sixth save in 41 chances. D- Backs starter Micah Owings worked into the seventh, allowing just one run on four hits, while walking a pair and fanning eight in 6 1/3 innings.
Trailing 5-1, the Nationals battled back to tie it in the eighth. Lopez started the rally with a walk and scored on a one-out triple by Ryan Zimmerman. Austin Kearns followed with an RBI single, and Church greeted reliever Doug Slaten with a game-tying two-run homer to right.
Arizona answered in the home half with back-to-back singles by Justin Upton and Reynolds, before a sacrifice fly by Stephen Drew put the D-Backs back on top.
Washington responded again, as Flores connected on a lead-off homer against Valverde in the ninth. Robert Fick then tripled to center, and a sac fly by Lopez put the Nationals on top for the first time in the series.
Chad Cordero worked the ninth to record his 26th save in 34 chances.
The Diamondbacks wasted little time getting to Bacsik, putting up a two-spot in the first. Orlando Hudson legged out an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out hit by Conor Jackson. Upton followed with a walk and Reynolds' RBI single to center made it 2-0.
Byrnes added to the lead when he clubbed a one-out, solo homer to center in the fifth. Jackson then singled, and after Upton was retired on a fly ball, Reynolds added a two-run shot to left that put the D-Backs on top 5-0.
Owings' no-hit bid was spoiled with two outs in the fifth. He retired Kearns and Church to start the inning, but walked Ronnie Belliard and plunked Tony Batista with a pitch. Flores followed with an RBI single to center that cut it to 5-1.
