(My Sportsbook) - Jeremy Bonderman hopes to stop a three-start losing streak this afternoon when the
Detroit Tigers play the finale of their four-game series with the
Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Comerica Park.
Bonderman ran his winless streak to four games on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, as he was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs and 10 hits in seven innings to fall to 10-4 on the season, while raising his earned run average to 4.50.
The 24-year-old right-hander has faced the Devil Rays six times and is 4-1 against them with a sparkling 1.88 ERA.
Tampa will counter with 23-year-old lefty Scott Kazmir, who is 8-7 with a 3.72 ERA. Kazmir won for the third time in his last four decisions on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles, surrendering a run on seven hits in seven innings. He also fanned nine in the win.
Kazmir is just 1-3 lifetime against the Tigers with a 5.47 ERA in five starts.
In the third game of this set on Wednesday, James Shields twirled seven strong innings and Dioner Navarro went 3-for-5 with a home run, guiding Tampa Bay to a 7-1 win. Shields (9-7) yielded one run on five hits while issuing no walks and striking out nine for the Devil Rays, who snapped a three-game slide.
Navarro ended with three runs scored and two RBI, and Carlos Pena knocked in a pair of runs, as Tampa stopped an eight-game road losing streak. Despite the win, the Devil Rays have still lost 19 of their last 22 on the road.
Chad Durbin (7-4) surrendered three runs over 4 1/3 frames for Detroit, which is now tied with the Mariners and is a half-game ahead of the Yankees for the wild card lead.
Gary Sheffield returned to the lineup after missing the last five games with a shoulder injury. He went 1-for-4 with a double, and Placido Polanco homered to account for all of Detroit's offense.
Detroit has split its six games with the Devil Rays this season and is 13-8 in this series since the start of the 2005 campaign. The Devil Rays have also won just three times in their last 10 visits to Detroit.
