New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Boston Red Sox outfielder and American League batting champion Manny Ramirez and New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte were voted American League Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for September. Additionally, Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Josh Phelps was named AL Rookie of the Month. Ramirez, who won the 2002 AL batting title with a .349 average, hit .396 during September. He led all AL batters with 38 hits and 29 RBI. Ramirez also hit nine home runs and crossed the plate 20 times in the final month of the season. Pettitte was 5-0 in September with a 2.23 ERA for the AL East champions. The southpaw threw 32 1/3 innings last month, striking out 23 while allowing just 24 hits. Phelps hit .338 with six home runs in September. The 24-year-old went 26- for-77 with 15 runs in 21 games last month. Phelps' teammate Mark Hendrickson and Chicago's Joe Crede were the runners-up in Rookie of the Month voting. Cleveland's Jim Thome, who set a new Indians' record for homers in a season with 52, was the runner-up for Player of the Month. Thome batted .341 with 10 homers and 22 RBI in September. Oakland's Tim Hudson was the runner-up for Pitcher of the Month honors. Hudson went 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA for the AL West champs.
