Corvallis, OR (My Sportsbook) - Mike Stutes struck out nine batters over eight innings and Darwin Barney drove in three runs to boost defending national champion Oregon State to an 8-2 win over Michigan, as the Beavers became the final team to make it into the College World Series.
Barney, who had three hits, had a two-run single during a four-run second inning, as the Beavers won the first two games against the Wolverines in the Super Regional round to make it to the 61st College World Series, which begins Friday at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.
Stutes was dominant, as the junior right-hander allowed just three hits and two runs with a walk. Two of those hits were homers by Eric Rose, in the sixth and ninth innings.
The Beavers, who edged Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday, advanced to the CWS for a third straight season and will try to repeat after beating North Carolina in the title game a year ago. Oregon State will play its first game in the CWS against Cal Sate Fullerton on Saturday at 7 p.m. (et).
Rice and Louisville open the 2007 College World Series when the two teams meet at 2 p.m. (et) on Friday. North Carolina faces Mississippi State Friday night at 7 p.m. (et). Arizona State will play UC Irvine on Saturday at 2 p.m. (et).
Oregon State surged to a 7-0 lead through five innings, as the Beavers got to Mike Wilson despite not getting a hit off the sophomore left-hander. Wilson struck out four and walked the same number and was charged with four runs before being lifted through 1 1/3 innings.
Wilson hit Braden Wells with a pitch, walked Lonnie Lechelt, Jordan Lennerton and Chris Hopkins with one out in the second inning before being lifted in favor of Michael Powers. Joey Wong walked to force in the game's second run, and Barney followed with a two-run single to right field.
Oregon State added three runs in the fifth on an RBI groundout from Wong, a balk by Chris Fetter and an RBI double from Barney. Scott Santschi singled in the Beavers' other run in the eighth inning.
OSU pitchers had thrown 21 straight scoreless innings until Rose's blast in the sixth.
