Sunrise, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Panthers acquired goaltender Jani Hurme from the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday in exchange for two young prospects. The Senators dealt the 27-year-old netminder before likely losing him in Friday's NHL waiver draft. Hurme served in a backup role last season to starter Patrick Lalime, playing in 25 games and posting a 12-9-1 record with a 2.28 goals against average. He also recorded three shutouts. In exchange for Hurme, the Panthers shipped center Greg Watson and goaltender Billy Thompson to Ottawa. Both 2001 draft picks, Watson netted 22 goals and added 30 assists in 51 games last season for the Prince Albert Raiders (WHL), while Thompson went 20-17-2 with a 2.73 GAA for the Prince George Cougars (WHL).
