Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - The Tennessee Titans released veteran middle linebacker Randall Godfrey on Wednesday, a cost-cutting move necessary to give the team some salary cap flexibility. Godfrey was released just three months after restructuring his contract to give the Titans some cap relief. "This was a very difficult decision on our part," Titans GM Floyd Reese said Wednesday after the team's second day of mini-camp. "We need some money. In essence, we're trading one position for three positions. It was unfortunate because we had no other choice." The Titans are expected to re-sign punter Craig Hentrich, quarterback Neil O'Donnell and center Gennaro DiNapoli with some of the money previously allocated towards Godfrey. Godfrey sustained an ankle injury during Tennessee's 27-24 come-from-behind victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on September 8 last season, limiting him to just eight games in 2002. The seven-year pro out of Georgia had amassed 110 or more tackles in each of the five seasons prior to 2002. Godfrey was acquired by Tennessee as an unrestricted free agent in 2000 from the Dallas Cowboys.
