Philadelphia 76ers try and halt a three-game slide this evening when they visit the
New York Knicks tonight at Madison Square Garden.
The struggling Sixers lost its third straight game on Tuesday, dropping a 98-89 decision to the Detroit Pistons at the Wachovia Center. Samuel Dalembert had 14 points and 17 rebounds for Philadelphia, which lost its fourth game in five tries.
Willie Green scored 16 points off the bench and Joe Smith chipped in 13 points and 10 boards. Andre Iguodala ended with 15 points and seven assists in the loss -- Philadelphia's 22nd over its last 27 games.
Philadelphia, which is six games off the lead in the Atlantic Division, owns a 5-17 road mark this season.
Forward Chris Webber (bruised right foot) is expected to miss tonight's game for Philadelphia. There are rumors of the team buying out Webber's contract, possibly as early as Wednesday. Webber is averaging 11.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season.
Meanwhile, the Knicks try for their third straight win when they open a three-game homestand Wednesday night. New York notched its second victory in a row with last Friday's 111-93 win over the Seattle SuperSonics.
Stephon Marbury poured in 28 points and Eddie Curry scored 27 and pulled down six rebounds for New York at KeyArena. Jamal Crawford posted 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Knicks, who went 2-3 on a five-game road trip.
New York has won four straight at home and is 8-10 at MSG this season. The Knicks are also a game off the top spot in the Atlantic standings.
Philadelphia defeated the Knicks, 98-77, on December 23 this season at the Wachovia Center. The 76ers have won four in a row and 10 of the last 19 meetings.
The Knicks have won seven of the last 10 matchups with Philly in New York.
