Salt Lake City, UT (My Sportsbook) - Dirk Nowitzki poured in a season-high 38 points and the Mavericks overcame his mental mistake in the final seconds, as Dallas held off the Utah Jazz, 108-105, to win for the 14th time in 15 games.
Josh Howard had 21 points and nine rebounds and Erick Dampier came up with a huge block in the final minute for the Mavericks, who bounced back from a 101-98 road loss to the Lakers Sunday night.
Carlos Boozer had 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting for the Jazz, who have lost eight of the last 10 matchups with the Mavs. Mehmet Okur and Matt Harpring each tallied 14 points, while Deron Williams scored 13 for Utah.
After Howard missed an open layup, Kirilenko couldn't connect on a three-point try, leaving the Jazz behind, 106-103 with under a minute left.
After a Dallas turnover, Williams drove to the lane, but Dampier came over to slap the ball against the glass.
Nowitzki made a pair of free throws with 10.2 seconds left for a seemingly comfortable 108-103 lead.
Boozer's layup with 4.4 seconds to go kept the Jazz in it, and instead of running out the clock or drawing a foul, Nowitzki challenged Kirilenko, but missed a reverse layup.
The Jazz called timeout with 0.3 seconds remaining, but Okur's desperation three from the left corner was off the mark.
Jason Terry had 18 points and Devin Harris 14 for the Mavs, who shot 52.9 percent from the field.
Dallas' Jerry Stackhouse was ejected in the third quarter after getting whistled for his second flagrant foul. He also drew a technical for arguing with Jazz coach Jerry Sloan in the opening quarter.
The Mavs led 26-24 after one quarter, but Boozer's slam had the Jazz ahead 35-28 early in the second. Williams' layup represented the final points of the half for a 53-45 Utah advantage.
Okur's free throw off a technical from Mavs coach Avery Johnson boosted the Jazz to their largest lead of the night, 54-45 with 11:19 left in the third.
