Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - Ed Jovanovski scored a goal and added an assist, as the Coyotes defeated the
Dallas Stars, 5-2, to give Phoenix its first seven-game winning streak since the 1999 season.
The Coyotes seven-game streak is the best since the team rattled off eight in a row from November 16 to December 2, 1999.
Shane Doan scored two goals and Mikael Tellqvist made 29 saves for Phoenix, which defeated Dallas for the first time in the last six meetings in the all- time series.
"Our team play has been good, a couple key goals, and our key players are playing at a level that the team really needs," said Phoenix head coach Wayne Gretzky.
Niklas Hagman and Jere Lehtinen tallied goals for the Stars, who have lost four of their last five. Marty Turco allowed four goals on 27 shots in the loss.
"For whatever reason, we weren't emotionally engaged in the game and if you do that, you are going to be behind," said Dallas head coach Dave Tippett. "You have to muster up something no matter what you're feeling. I'm not sure how good Phoenix is right now because we didn't show much to be able to tell."
The Stars struck first and went up 1-0 at 10:06 of the opening period. From the right corner, Eric Lindros centered the puck to a streaking Hagman, who guided the puck past Tellqvist.
The Coyotes then responded with three straight goals to take control of the contest.
Phoenix tied the game at 1-1 after Travis Roche tallied his third goal of the season at 13:15 of the first. Jovanovski's wrister from the point was stopped by Turco, but from in front, Roche slid the rebound over the goal line.
The Coyotes took a 2-1 edge after Jovanovski scored on the power play at 9:11 of the second stanza. Yanic Perreault controlled the puck along the right boards and slid the disc in front to Jovanovski, who powered a slap shot past Turco.
Doan provided Phoenix with a two-goal edge at 11:42 of the second. On the power play, Doan took a pass from Ladislav Nagy in front and tucked the puck inside the right post.
The Stars cashed in on a two-man advantage 42 seconds into the third period to make it a one-goal game. Lehtinen pounced on a loose puck at the right of the crease and jammed the disc between the pads of Tellqvist.
The Coyotes regained their two-goal lead at 15:42 of the third after Owen Nolan blasted a heavy slap shot past Turco from the left circle.
Dallas pulled Turco for an extra attacker with about a minute left and Doan sealed the victory for Phoenix with an empty netter.
