Colorado Springs, CO (My Sportsbook) - Dan Nwaelele scored 22 points, as 18th-ranked Air Force rallied from a 21-point first half deficit and beat New Mexico, 65-57, for the Falcons' 12th straight victory.
Matt McCraw added 21 points for Air Force (16-1, 3-0 MWC), which scored 21 points in a row early in the second half. The Falcons' only loss came to Duke on November 20.
Despite the incredible comeback and winning streak, Air Force coach Jeff Bzdelik didn't seem too pleased after the game.
"I could see the lack of energy building," Bzdelik said. "We've been a little full of ourselves lately and had some sloppy practices. That, coupled with New Mexico's shooting, we dug ourselves a hole. We gave them some easy opportunities in the first half."
Darren Prentice had 18 points and Tony Danridge had 15 for the Lobos (11-7, 0-3), who suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.
"Air Force got some shots in the second," New Mexico coach Ritchie McKay said. "They got some deflections and were able to capitalize. They are a hard team to press. We couldn't press. Air Force can carve you up if you press."
Both teams shot exceptionally well, with the Lobos checking in at 51.1 percent, and the Falcons at 51.3 percent.
A three-pointer by Prentice boosted the Lobos to a 17-5 lead with less than eight minutes expired. The margin blew up to 21 at 37-16 on Ryan Kersten's three with 2:58 remaining in the half.
It was 39-24 at the half, but the Lobos looked like an entirely different team in the final 20 minutes. Daniel Faris' basket made it 41-24, but then came Air Force's huge spurt.
McCaw's jumper moved the Falcons to a 42-41 lead with 11:24 left, and his three-pointer less than two minutes later capped the flurry.
Faris' free throw finally broke New Mexico's drought, but it was 9:56 from the Lobos' last point.
A layup by Nwaelele and a three-pointer from Tim Anderson moved the margin to 50-42.
When Danridge's jumper fell through to get the Lobos within 52-44, it marked New Mexico's first made shot since Faris', 56 seconds into the half.
New Mexico couldn't get closer than six the rest of the way.
