Waco, TX (My Sportsbook) - Acie Law IV netted 20 points to lead the eighth- ranked Texas A&M Aggies to a 61-51 victory over the Baylor Bears.
Joseph Jones posted 14 points and 12 rebounds for Texas A&M (14-2, 2-0 Big 12), who have proven to be one of the elite teams in the Big 12 Conference. The Aggies are off to their best start since 1960 and have won seven straight. Antanas Kavaliaskas added nine points in the win.
"This was a great win for us," Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie said. "This was a real hard fought game by two teams who were really passionate about trying to win a game. There were a lot of good players out there where they were having difficult times making easy shots."
Kevin Rogers posted 19 points and nine rebounds for Baylor (10-5, 0-2), which had a four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with an 81-77 loss to an outstanding Oklahoma State team to open Big 12 play. Curtis Jerrells scored 11 points and Tweety Carter added 10 for the Bears, who have lost 25 straight games against ranked opponents.
"We did some things well enough to win, didn't do enough," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "Credit to Texas A&M for making a lot of free throws and making the big plays down the stretch."
Jones converted a pair of free throws with 11:28 remaining to tie the score at 41. Patrick Fields followed with a pair of his own 30 seconds later to regain the lead for Baylor.
However, Jones went back to the line for two more from the charity stripe 12 seconds after that, this time tying the game for the final time. The Aggies closed the game on a 12-4 run, sparked by a Law free throw with just under five minutes to go.
Texas A&M edged a 26-24 halftime advantage, and outscored BU 26-12 in points scored from the paint.
The Aggies shot 16-for-43 (37.2 percent) from the field, compared similarly to 16-for-48 (33.3 percent) by the Bears, who got outrebounded 38-26.
