San Antonio, TX (My Sportsbook) - Tim Duncan posted 16 points and nine rebounds, as the
San Antonio Spurs topped the Portland Trail Blazers, 98-84, at the AT&T Center.
Point guard Tony Parker (strained right hip) was questionable for the contest yet scored 14 points, as did Manu Ginobili, for the Spurs, who won their second straight. Brent Barry netted 13 points off the bench and Bruce Bowen added 12 on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
"We shot the ball well tonight," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "It was a great job by Portland and Zach Randolph did a good job. We didn't stop him, but we had a pretty good team defense otherwise."
Zach Randolph posted a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine boards for the Trail Blazers, who have lost six of their last seven. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 17 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Jarrett Jack had 13 points and five assists. Brandon Roy added 10 points.
"I like our play, I just told the guys the same thing, I liked our play, we came out, we played physical," Portland coach Nate McMillan said. "The only thing I didn't like was our turnovers"
Portland took an early 21-18 lead after 12 minutes of play, but the Spurs responded in the second quarter.
San Antonio opened the second on an 8-0 spurt capped by a Matt Bonner trey with 10:28 remaining to take a five-point lead. The Spurs would outscore Portland by 10 in the stanza for a 51-44 halftime advantage.
The Spurs added two points to that lead in the third to lead 77-68 heading into the final quarter, in which San Antonio added five points to the lead to cruise to the easy win.
Game Notes
This was the second meeting of the season between the squads...On November 20th, Ginobili scored 18 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as San Antonio bested Portland, 107-98, at the Rose Garden...Portland has lost seven straight and 10 of its last 11 at San Antonio...The Spurs have won seven in a row in this series.
