Buenos Aires, Argentina (My Sportsbook) - The Argentine outfit, River Plate, has rejected Real Madrid's advances on acquiring striker Gonzalo Higuain, only adding to the France versus Argentina battle for the 18-year- old. The French-born Higuain turned down offers to participate with either the U-20 Argentina or France National teams this season, the striker moved to Argentina when he was less than a year old. In River Plate's 3-1 win over 2005 Brazilian-Champion Corinthians in May, Higuain scored a pair and this offensive threat is something Madrid was looking to obtain, especially heading into its Group E Champions League tussle with top-squad Lyon on Tuesday. In the Argentina Clausura Standings, River Plate remains in third with 34 points and 10 wins in 16 matches. Real mirrors this image with its third-place stay in Spain's La Liga standings. The Spanish club's approach on Higuain can only add to the questions surrounding striker David Beckham's future and a possible move to Major League Soccer in the United States or a return to the Premiership.
