Blackburn, England (My Sportsbook) - Blackburn Rovers added injury to insult in Sunday's 2-1 loss to West Ham, as Jason Roberts suffered a broken foot that will keep the striker sidelined for three to four months.
Roberts broke his right metatarsal and was carried off on a stretcher in the 27th minute after a challenge with Jonathan Spector. The native of Granada came to Blackburn this season after playing in Wigan the last two.
"We've lost Jason Roberts with a long-term injury," head coach Mark Hughes told the club's website. "We are a little bit thin at the moment, but we need to get ourselves together and make sure we are fully focused for Thursday and I'm sure we will be."
Blackburn takes on FC Basel on Thursday in its home UEFA Cup Group E fixture.
Panathinaikos suffered its own blow in its weekend fixture, as captain Dimitrios Papadopoulos picked up a left ankle injury during the squad's 1-0 win over Iraklis FC.
The striker will not be in uniform for Thursday's UEFA Cup battle at Mlada Boleslav and could also be out of action in next Sunday's tussle against Olympiacos CFP.
The 25-year-old has been with Pana since 2003 and just signed a three-year contract this past June.
Newcastle plans to dodge the injury bullet before its shot, sitting Obafemi Martins in the squad's UEFA Cup contest against US Citta di Palermo on Thursday, as the Nigerian has been dealing with a hamstring injury all season.
Manager Glenn Roeder has been very careful with Martins, sidelining him in Saturday's Premiership match against Charlton that ended in a scoreless draw.
The 22-year-old has made three UEFA Cup game appearances this year, including a two-goal performance in the Magpies win over Levadia Tallinn in round one.
