Newcastle, England (My Sportsbook) - Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer will be forced to the sidelines again, after making his first return to the pitch on Wednesday, following a six-month layoff. The 27-year-old suffered an eye injury in training on Friday, after getting hit in his left eye during the team's preparatory training for Saturday's Charlton Athletic home-fixture. "Kieron took a knock to his left eye on Friday morning in what can only be described as a freak accident," Manager Glenn Roeder told the club's website. "Kieron doesn't deserve such wretched luck to happen little more than a day after getting back out on the pitch." The England star returned to action in Wednesday's Portsmouth meeting that resulted in a 3-0 Newcastle win. The middy came off the bench to partake in his first contest in six months, due to a prior injury. Dyer joined the Magpies in 1999, making 169 appearances for the squad, as he was set to make his first start since April in this weekend's match. "It's such cruel luck to be robbed of his services," Roeder said. "We've just got to stand up and move forward in a positive way, starting with Charlton on Saturday."
