Neenah, WI (My Sportsbook) - Champ Car World Series driver Cristiano da Matta underwent emergency surgery Thursday after his car crashed into a deer that wandered onto the track during an open test session at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. RuSPORT, da Matta's team, released a statement Thursday afternoon, saying he was airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. "After arriving at Theda Clark Medical Center, a head CT scan showed Cristiano had suffered a subdural hematoma," Dr. Chris Pinderski, Champ Car Director of Medical Affairs said in a statement. "He was urgently taken to the operating room for surgical removal of the hematoma and is now being observed in the intensive care unit." The 32-year-old da Matta won the Champ Car driver's title in 2002. He started the 2006 season as a member of Dale Coyne Racing, but he joined RuSPORT after four races.
