Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (My Sportsbook) - Brazil hired Dunga on Monday as the successor to Carlos Alberto Parreira, who resigned as the national team coach last week. The 42-year-old Dunga has no coaching experience on his resume, but he is a former Brazil captain. The midfielder was on the squad which won the 1994 World Cup, in addition to being on Brazil's World Cup roster in 1990 and 1998. "We've chosen Dunga because he will completely fulfill the fans' desire of having a vibrant coach for the national team," said the Brazilian Football Confederation President Ricardo Teixeira. According to various reports since Parreira's departure, Vanderlei Luxemburgo and Paulo Autuori were thought to be the two frontrunners for the job. The 63-year-old Parreira led Brazil into this summer's World Cup as the favorites, but the team was bounced from the tournament by France in the quarterfinals. Parreira took over Brazil in 2003, his third stint with the team. Dunga, who still has not named his assistant coaches, will make his sideline debut on August 16, in a friendly versus Norway. "I want to bring to the national team the same attitude I had as a player," said Dunga. "Motivation and a desire to win are the keys to wearing the shirt of the Brazilian national team." Besides for playing in Brazil, Dunga also suited up for clubs in Japan, Germany and Italy.
