Berlin, Germany (My Sportsbook) - FIFA announced on Tuesday it will launch an investigation into French captain Zinedine Zidane's red card in Sunday's World Cup final between Italy and France. "FIFA will open a disciplinary investigation into Zidane's conduct to enable it to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident as exactly as possible," FIFA said in a statement. Zidane was sent off the field in the 110th minute of extra time Sunday for head butting Italy's Marco Materazzi in the chest. Materazzi fell to the field and Zidane was shown the red card by referee Horacio Elizondo shortly after. France and Italy were tied, 1-1 at the time of the red card, and finished the 30 minute window of extra time stuck in the draw before Italy won the match 5-3 on penalties. On Monday, Zidane was awarded the Golden Ball award after being voted the World Cup's best player.
