Flowery Branch, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Falcons re-signed starting free safety Keion Carpenter on Thursday, while inking unrestricted free agent center Kevin Dogins from the Chicago Bears. Carpenter, who completed his first season with the Falcons, started all 16 regular season games and both playoff contests last season. Carpenter led the secondary with 73 tackles and four interceptions. He also returned an interception 41 yards for a TD against Carolina. Last season Dogins played in all 16 games for Chicago with eight starts. He started one game at center and seven games at guard. Dogins, a seven-year pro, spent his first five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the last two in the Windy City. Meanwhile, the team traded offensive tackle Michael Thompson to the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed 2004 draft choice. Thompson was originally selected by the Falcons in the fourth round of the 2000 draft out of Tennessee State. He was limited to just 12 games played with four starts due to various injuries in his first three seasons. Last season, Thompson played in eight games with one start. Atlanta also signed free agent placekicker John Markham. Markham was originally selected by the New York Giants in the fifth round of the 2001 draft out of Vanderbilt. He was waived by the Giants prior to the start of the regular season and was out of football in 2002.
