Kaiserslautern, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Substitute Francesco Totti scored a penalty kick in injury time to lead 10-man Italy over Australia, 1-0, Monday at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern. In the 93rd minute, Italy was awarded a penalty after Fabio Grosso was brought down by Australia defender Lucas Neill in the box. Totti stepped up to the line and fired into the left corner past a diving Mark Schwarzer to lift Italy into the quarterfinals. With the goal, Italy became the first team to score with only ten men in this year's tournament. Marcello Lippi's squad was cut to ten in the 51st minute as Marco Materazzi was booked with a straight red card for a tackle on Marco Bresciano. Australia, however, could not capitalize on the sending off and was knocked out of its second World Cup. The Socceroos, led by offensive threats Tim Cahill and Bresciano, created several scoring opportunities throughout the match but could not finish the job. In the 80th minute, Cahill connected with Bresciano's corner, but his header went just over the crossbar to deny Australia the lead. Minutes later, Bresciano found himself in front of the net, but the Parma midfielder sailed the ball over Gianluigi's net. With the victory, Italy meets Ukraine Friday in Hamburg.
