Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The
New York Islanders try to run their unbeaten string to three games tonight when they battle the winless
Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena.
The Islanders played horribly for the first two periods against the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday, but rallied in the third frame with a pair of goals and skated to a 3-3 tie at the First Union Center.
Trailing by two, the Isles pulled within a goal on Mark Parrish's tally with 8:43 left in the third period. Parrish skated to a loose puck in the Flyers' zone and his wrist shot from the right circle sailed over Philadelphia netminder Roman Cechmanek's right shoulder and into the net.
New York then tied the score on Brad Isbister's goal with 2:08 remaining in regulation. Isbister skated down the right wing and threw the puck on net from just below the right circle. Cechmanek stopped the shot with his left skate, but the puck then deflected off Marty Murray's skate and found its way inside the left post for Isbister's first score of the season.
The only reason New York was even in the game was the stellar play in net of former Flyer Garth Snow, who made 38 saves, including point-blank stops on Chris Therien, Mark Recchi and Justin Williams.
Chris Osgood, however, should be back between the pipes tonight when the Isles try for their third straight win over the Thrashers on Saturday.
Atlanta was on the losing end of a wild affair Friday in Tampa, as the red hot Lightning rallied to an 8-5, victory.
Patrik Stefan posted two goals for the Thrashers, who led 3-1 after the opening period but allowed four unanswered goals to lose control.
Shawn McEachern, Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatley also scored for Atlanta, which cashed in on 2-of-6 chances with the extra skater.
Pasi Nurminen allowed five goals on 22 shots for Atlanta, before being pulled for Milan Hnilicka, who made six saves on nine shots.
New York is 4-1-1 in its last six versus the Thrashers and 5-2-1 in the last eight.
