=== 10-man Angola stuns Mexico in Group D scoreless draw ===
Hanover, Germany (My Sportsbook) - World Cup debutant Angola remains alive in Group D competition after finishing in a scoreless draw with Mexico Friday in Hanover.
Despite playing a man down, the African nation managed to shut out heavy favorite Mexico in front of a 43,000 sold-out crowd in the reconstructed Niedersachsenstadion.
Mexico, which celebrated a 3-1 victory over Iran in its opening match, could not find the back of the net during Friday's game. The team missed several scoring opportunities and failed to capitalize on Andre Macanga's send-off in the second half. The 28-year-old midfielder was ejected in the 79th minute with a second yellow card for a handball.
Defender Carlos Salcido tried to get the ball rolling in the second minute as he rifled a shot over the crossbar from 30 yards out. Mexico's second chance came in the 13th minute as captain Rafael Marquez's 30-yard free-kick hit the base of the post.
Hungry for a win, veteran midfielder Figueiredo and Angola stormed through the Mexican defense at the half-hour mark. In the 31st minute, Figueiredo sent a free-kick to teammate Akwa, but the Angola captain could only head the ball over the crossbar.
Angola and Mexico continued to fight for the game-winning goal in the second half, but neither team could break the deadlock by the time the final whistle was blown.
Mexico, which is in search of its fifth straight trip to the Round of 16, currently sits atop Group D with four points. Second-place Portugal, however, could leapfrog the Central American team with a win over Iran on Saturday in Frankfurt. A loss from Portugal could give Angola a chance to seal a second-round berth.
Angola finishes play Wednesday against Iran at Leipzig, while Mexico faces Portugal the same day in Gelsenkirchen.
