Monterrey, Mexico (My Sportsbook) - Canadian Paul Tracy captured Sunday's Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix, defeating Michel Jourdain Jr. by 2.039 seconds. Tracy, who took the checkered flag at the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, became the first driver to win the first two races of the year since three-time CART champion Rick Mears accomplished the feat in 1982. Mears went on to claim the championship that year. Tracy, who has 21 career CART victories to his credit, led the final 69 laps of the 85-lap event and averaged 87.184 m.p.h. around the 2.104 mile Fundidora Park. He stalled twice on his victory lap while entertaining the fans. "I need to work on my donuts," Tracy said. "That was embarrassing! But we made the right calls, and we've had a great day." Alex Tagliani, Adrian Fernandez and Bruno Junqueira completed the top-five. Pole-sitter Sebastien Bourdais was involved in an accident on the 41st lap and placed 17th. The race was slowed by five caution flags totaling 15 laps. Only seven of the 19 drivers finished on the lead lap. Tracy leads the standings after two races with 43 points. Jourdain Jr. is second with 32, followed by Junqueira with 24. The next event on the CART schedule is the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, which will take place on April 13.
