Monterrey, Mexico (My Sportsbook) - Rookie Sebastien Bourdais earned his second consecutive pole of the 2003 CART season, posting a record time of 1 minute, 14.938 seconds (95.940 m.p.h.) around the 2.104-mile Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico. "After the practice sessions, we were pretty happy this morning, but it's always hard to imagine that you can do such a lap during qualifying," said Bourdais. Bourdais will be joined by Friday's provisional pole winner Paul Tracy. Tracy didn't get in the driver's seat in the second qualifying session after crashing his primary car in the morning practice and will be forced to use his backup car in the race. Alex Tagliani and Oriol Servia will start in row two. Adrian Fernandez, who won the pole at Monterrey in 2002, will start sixth behind Michael Jourdain Jr. Canadian Patrick Carpentier also missed the second qualifying session. Carpentier showed up for morning practice with flu-like symptoms and a virus in one eye. "He can't see out of one eye," said Tracy. "He tried to drive this morning, couldn't see and slid off the track." A team spokesman said former CART driver Max Papis was being flown in as a possible replacement for Carpentier. The race is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (et).
