(My Sportsbook) - The
New York Islanders played horribly for the first two periods against the
Philadelphia Flyers Thursday, but rallied in the third frame with a pair of goals and skated to a 3-3 tie at the First Union Center.
"We got beat to the checks, we got beat to the pucks. They played a spirited game and we just played a game," Isles head coach Peter Laviolette said. "And that's unacceptable."
Trailing by two, the Isles pulled within a goal on Mark Parrish's tally with 8:43 left in the third period. Parrish skated to a loose puck in the Flyers' zone and his wrist shot from the right circle sailed over Philadelphia netminder Roman Cechmanek's right shoulder and into the net.
New York then tied the score on Brad Isbister's goal with 2:08 remaining in regulation. Isbister skated down the right wing and threw the puck on net from just below the right circle. Cechmanek stopped the shot with his left skate, but the puck then deflected off Marty Murray's skate and found its way inside the left post for Isbister's first score of the season.
"I was just throwing it on net," Isbister said, "and hoping for something good to happen."
The only reason New York was even in the game was the stellar play in net of former Flyer Garth Snow, who made 38 saves, but saw his three-game shutout streak against his former team come to an end.
Snow, who recorded two shutouts in Philly for the Islanders last season, had kept the Flyers scoreless for 200:15. He also preserved the tie with point- blank stops on Chris Therien, Mark Recchi and Justin Williams.
"You get lucky sometimes," Snow said. "I guess I was lucky for 200 minutes."
