Lake Forest, IL (My Sportsbook) -
Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Miller missed practice Wednesday because of tendinitis in his right elbow and shoulder. He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Detroit.
"We'll just get it under control," Miller said. "It'll be a day-to-day thing and that's all you can do."
Miller said he unknowingly played with the problem for the past few games and underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday, which determined the severity of the injury.
"It's something that flared up a little bit on Monday," Miller said. "It's not something that just happened. It's happened over a period of weeks now."
Miller will try to practice Thursday and believes he will be able to play Sunday.
"We'll just come out [Thursday] and see how things go," Miller said. "I expect to play. We'll just see how it feels. On Monday it did not feel good after we got done practicing. But I've had two days now to rest it and it feels better. We'll come out [Thursday] and maybe toss a little bit and Friday will probably be the crucial day."
Miller has completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 1,217 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions this season for the 2-3 Bears.
If Miller is unable to play, Chris Chandler would make his first start for the Bears. He took the reps with the first-team offense in practice on Wednesday.
"Jim didn't practice, but we're all expecting him to play," said Chandler. "If not, the work I'm getting is going to be good if something comes up Sunday where I play. At this point, it's too early to tell, but I think we're all expecting Jim to be there."
Chandler was signed as a free agent in the off-season after spending the last five years with Atlanta.
Bears head coach Dick Jauron would not say when he would make a determination.
"We'll go right up to game time if we have to," Jauron said. "If the answer is clear before that then we'll make a decision on it, but we have to wait and see day-to-day."
