Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The Colorado Rockies announced the hiring of several coaches on Tuesday, including Sandy Alomar Sr., who joined the team as the third base coach. Dave Collins was named the first base coach, Rick Mathews the bullpen coach, Jamie Quirk the club's bench coach and Mark Strittmatter the bullpen catcher. Alomar, who has 40 years of experience in professional baseball, comes to Colorado from the Chicago Cubs' organization where he spent the past 12 years. Collins spent last season with Milwaukee as the first base coach of the Brewers. He guided Colorado's Salem (A) club to the Carolina League title in 2001. Mathews previously served as the bullpen coach of the Rockies both during the inaugural season of 1993 and then again in 1995. Quirk joined the Texas organization last winter after eight seasons on the Royals' coaching staff.
