St. Petersburg, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have acquired catcher Josh Paul from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for infielder Travis Schlichting. Paul is a .251 lifetime hitter in his seven seasons with the Angels, Chicago White Sox and Cubs. He appeared in just 34 regular season games last year, where he managed two homers, four runs batted in and a .189 batting average. The 30-year-old is best known for his involvement in Game 2 of last season's ALCS. With the game between the Angels and White Sox tied with two outs in the ninth, Chicago's A.J. Pierzynski struck out but ran to first in case the low pitch had hit the ground. Feeling he had caught the ball cleanly, Paul rolled the ball back to the mound as the rest of his teammates headed toward the dugout. The umpires ruled it a trap, however, and Pierzynski was safe. The White Sox went on to score in the inning to capture the game, and eventually took the series. Schlichting was the Devil Rays' fourth-round selection in 2003, and spent last year with the club's Single-A affiliate. The 21-year-old hit .252 with three home runs, 39 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 111 games last season.
