Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Marty Turco made 23 saves while Stu Barnes scored a goal and added an assist, as the
Dallas Stars beat the
Nashville Predators 3-1 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
Niko Kapanen picked up two assists in the win for Dallas, which has won six of its last seven games.
Scott Hartnell scored the lone goal for the Predators, who lost for only the second time in their last eight games. Tomas Vokoun ended the game with 29 saves in defeat.
Nashville dropped only its second game on home ice (10-2).
"It's really a tribute to our player's dedication to winning on the road," said Dallas head coach Dave Tippett.
At 5:45 into the second stanza, Dallas grabbed a 1-0 lead. With the man advantage, Mike Modano darted into the Nashville zone along the right boards and made a centering pass to Jere Lehtinen, who one-timed the puck past Vokoun's glove side.
With 2:04 remaining in the second period, Nashville had a great chance to tie the score but Turco slid post-to-post to rob Steve Sullivan with a glove save.
The Stars went up 2-0 late in the second after Barnes scored his sixth goal of the season. From the left circle, Barnes let go a wrist shot that Vokoun slowed down with his pads, but the puck trickled through his five-hole for the goal at 18:13.
"We are keeping things simple," said Barnes. "From start to finish we are playing solid."
Nashville cut the deficit in half as Hartnell netted a power play goal 3:39 into the third period. David Legwand fed the puck to Marek Zidlicky at the top of the point, and he sent a wrist shot in on goal that Turco was able to knock down. However, Hartnell was right there to knock the rebound home for his eighth goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later, Dallas re-gained its two-goal lead as defenseman Trevor Daley blasted a slap shot from the left point on the power play that Antti Miettinen deflected past Vokoun as Kapanen provided the screen in front.
"If you give them 12 chances on the power play, they will eventually score a goal, tonight, they scored two," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz.
Nashville pushed hard to get back into the game late, but Turco was strong in goal and finished the period with seven saves.
Nashville applied a ton of pressure in the opening period, but couldn't get the puck past Turco, who turned aside all 10 shots that were fired his way.
Dallas had its share of chances as well to score in the first, but went 0- for-3 on the power play, Vokoun, made seven saves during the period.
