Rams to go with third-stringer Bulger on Sunday

St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - The St. Louis Rams will start their third quarterback in as many weeks for Sunday's game against Oakland, as third- stringer Marc Bulger gets the call against the undefeated Raiders.

Jamie Martin, who took over for an injured Kurt Warner two weeks ago against Dallas and started last Sunday's game against San Francisco, injured his left knee against the 49ers and missed practice this week.

Bulger, who played most of the pre-season, took the majority of the reps in practice this week and will play in a regular-season game for the first time in his brief career.

"Marc's had a heck of a week of practice," said Rams head coach Mike Martz. "If he plays like he practices, we'll be fine."

The Rams are still looking for their first win of the season, as their 0-5 start is the worst for the franchise since 1963.

Bulger was a sixth-round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2000 and joined the Rams last year. The West Virginia product completed 68 percent of his passes for 526 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions during the 2002 pre-season.

"Obviously it's not the same," Bulger said of the difference between practice and a game. "Game situations are a lot different than practice because guys are pretty open right now in practice and I know in the games it's a lot are pretty open right now in practice and I know in the games it's a lot tighter, just from running it in the [pre-season] games. Just having a feel, even if they're wide open, trying to put the ball exactly where I want to right now is key because in the game it's going to be a lot tighter."

Bulger set 25 passing records at West Virginia.

Martin, with Warner recovering from surgery to repair a broken finger, was set to make his third NFL start on Sunday. He completed 24-of-37 passes for 262 yards with a touchdown and an interception after replacing Warner against the Cowboys, then finished 23-of-40 for 232 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in last week's 37-13 loss to the Niners.

Despite being listed as probable for this Sunday's game, Martin did not practice Wednesday or Friday and on Thursday had fluid drained from his knee.

Warner, meanwhile, is expected to be sidelined until at least November.
