Fort Worth, TX (My Sportsbook) - Todd Bodine captured Friday's Silverado 350K at the Texas Motor Speedway to successfully defend his 2004 win. The No.30 Toyota crossed the finish line more than a second ahead of Kyle Busch.
The victory was Bodine's third of the season and fifth of his Craftsman Truck Series career.
Pole winner Mike Skinner brought the cars to the green flag for 146 laps of racing and led the event for its first 25 laps building a lead of more than one second over second place Bill Lester.
Moving up to challenge the leaders was the No.23 Toyota of Johnny Benson. He began the race in sixth, but had moved up to third place in the first few laps.
Going in the other direction was championship contender Dennis Setzer, who started 19th, but fell to 26th place while complaining of a very loose race car.
Skinner continued to lead as the drivers came up to their first pit stops on lap 41. His pit crew did the job and the No.5 Toyota came off pit road still in charge of the race. But when the green flag dropped to resume the race on lap 43, Busch passed Skinner for the first lead change of the evening.
Benson was the third leader of the race, cutting underneath Busch on lap 54 for the top spot. Bodine followed Benson past Busch and the two were nose-to tail for the next five laps.
A Justin Allgaier caused caution brought most of the trucks to pit lane again but this time Busch and Skinner stayed out and inherited the lead. Skinner overtook Busch a couple of laps later and led as the field passed the halfway point of the race. Ted Musgrave was 15th and Setzer 24th.
After a couple of more cautions the drivers all had enough fuel to reach the finish line. Busch and Skinner were still the top-two trucks closely followed by Terry Cook, Bodine and Ron Hornaday Jr.
The race restarted with 46 laps to go.
It took Skinner two laps to retake the lead with a move to the bottom of the track. Bodine passed Busch with 30 laps to go as Busch slowed with a tire problem after brushing the outside wall.
Skinner began to get loose as well and Bodine powered around Skinner with 21 laps to go as they were passing lapped traffic. He built the lead to more than 1.5 seconds, but a Brad Keselowski caused caution flag came out with 15 laps remaining.
On the restart with 10 laps to go, Bodine got a great jump and moved out to a big lead as Busch took over second place from Skinner. The three trucks expanded their lead over the field and it came down to just the three competitors.
Bodine began to pull away as Busch and Skinner were side-by-side for second place. His lead was 1.071 seconds with four laps to go and neither Skinner nor Busch could catch him. He easily took the checkered flag for win number five.
Texan David Starr and David Reutimann completed the top-five.
In the championship race, Ted Musgrave expanded his points lead to 63 with a 14th-place finish as Setzer could only manage to finish 18th. Bodine is third overall, 192 points behind Musgrave.
The next race in the series is scheduled for Friday night, November 11th at the Phoenix International Raceway.
