ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Detroit Lions cornerback Dre' Bly has a dislocated wrist but will see a hand specialist to determine whether he needs surgery.
Coach Steve Mariucci said Monday that Bly could miss several weeks if he needs the surgery. Also, defensive tackle Shaun Rogers sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is week-to-week. Both were injured in a 13-10 win over Cleveland on Sunday.
R.W. McQuarters, who already has stepped in to replace Pro Bowl kick returner Eddie Drummond (knee), now is looking to fill in for Bly, another Pro Bowl player.
``When I came here, I knew that Dre' and Fernando Bryant were the starting corners, and that Eddie was a Pro Bowl kick returner,'' McQuarters said. ``But in this league, you always know that you are one play away from being in the game. I'm ready, and I'm going to just keep trying to make plays.''
McQuarters has also talked about trying to help out at wide receiver, which took another blow Sunday when Kevin Johnson tore his Achilles' tendon, putting him out for the rest of the season. The Lions were already missing Drummond and Roy Williams (leg) to injury, while Charles Rogers has one week left on his drug suspension.
``During training camp, I thought this was the deepest team that we have had since I've been here,'' Mariucci said. ``We've needed all of it and then some.''
Mariucci is hopeful that Drummond and Williams might return for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, but Williams didn't sound as positive.
``I'm not sure right now,'' said Williams, who played much of last year with an ankle injury that required postseason surgery. ``I've got a Grade 3 pull, which is the worst grade, and you just go out there and do what I do with a pull like that.''
Quarterback Jeff Garcia reported only minimal soreness in his leg and ankle after the game, his first since injuring them in the final preseason game.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press.
