Martinsville, VA (My Sportsbook) - Ricky Craven captured this afternoon's Kroger 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at the Martinsville Speedway. The No.99 Roush Racing Ford driver crossed the finish line eight lengths ahead of Todd Kluever.
The victory was Craven's first in the series and he became the 15th driver to win in all three NASCAR national series' (Nextel Cup, Busch, Craftsman).
Rick Crawford brought the field to the green flag after winning the pole in record time and led the first 17 laps before yielding to Kyle Busch.
Just a few laps later (lap 35), series points leader Dennis Setzer spun out and fell all the way back to 30th place. His main rival for the title, Ted Musgrave saw the mistake and jumped on his advantage.
Musgrave, who started seventh, worked his way up to second and then on lap 47 took the lead for the first time, gaining five valuable bonus points.
Following a caution in which only half the field pitted, Musgrave found himself in seventh place on the restart. The No.1 Ultra Motorsports driver quickly moved back up the charts to third place behind Timothy Peters and veteran Robert Pressley.
At the mid-point of the 200-lap event, Musgrave jumped past Pressley for second place behind Peters. One more lap and Musgrave drove around the outside of Peters to grab the race lead for the second time.
After a round of caution-flag pit stops, Musgrave again found himself in seventh place, just ahead of Busch.
Three laps after the green flag dropped. Musgrave was on a charge up to fourth place behind Ricky Craven, Todd Kluever and Brandon Whitt. All of the leaders had pitted for the last time, so if Musgrave was going to win the race, he would have to pass them on the track, not on pit road.
The next 40 crash-filled laps included three yellow flags and a red flag. The race resumed with 42 laps to go to the finish, but they got just six laps in before another caution flag when Bobby Labonte was sent spinning.
More caution flags and the race finally resumed with 12 laps to go.
Craven got a great jump on the restart and quickly moved out to a half-second lead. Over the next 10 laps he increased the margin to 1.130 second with one lap to go and cruised to his first Craftsman Truck Series victory.
Musgrave finished fourth and took a 54-point lead over Dennis Setzer (19th) in the championship race with four events remaining (3,037-2,983).
The next scheduled event is Saturday, October 29th at the very fast Atlanta Motor Speedway.
