Zurich, Switzerland (My Sportsbook) - FIFA suspended Brazilian referee Edilson Pereira de Carvalho Tuesday until further notice. The decision came as a response to Carvalho's reported involvement in a match- fixing scandal. The Brazilian Football Confederation and federal police had recently opened an investigation into the case. FIFA imposed the suspension "in the light of the Brazilian federal police's decision to open a criminal investigation into (Carvalho's) alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal." Carvalho was recently arrested for his part in the scandal in the Brazilian championship. He was already suspended by the Brazilian Football Confederation. |
