Bismarck, ND (My Sportsbook) - Dave Bliss, the former head coach of Baylor's men's basketball team, was named the new head coach of the Dakota Wizards on Friday.

Bliss was head coach of the Bears' program when Carlton Dotson shot and killed teammate Patrick Dennehy in June 2003. In the aftermath of the incident, it was found that Bliss and his coaching staff attempted to mislead investigators by making Dennehy look like a drug dealer. Bliss would resign two months after the shooting and it was later found that his program committed a number of NCAA violations.

Dotson eventually pleaded guilty this past June to killing Dennehy.

Bliss owns a career record of 526-328 on the collegiate level, having coached at the University of Oklahoma, Southern Methodist University, the University of New Mexico, and Baylor.

"We feel extremely fortunate to have such a high caliber coach on our bench and we are confident he will continue the Dakota Wizards winning tradition," said general manager Jane Link. "There were several strong candidates for this position but we feel Dave is the best fit for our team and our community."

Bliss has been out of coaching since he was removed at Baylor, where he compiled a 61-57 record and led the Bears to their first postseason appearance in 11 season in 2001 when the club went 19-12 on their way to the NIT.
