Calgary, Alberta (My Sportsbook) - Calgary Flames defenseman Jordan Leopold will miss the start of the regular season after being placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Leopold hasn't skated since taking an elbow to the chin from Daniel Cleary during Saturday's preseason game against Edmonton. He was diagnosed with a concussion. The Flames are counting on Leopold to help fill the void left by the departure of Derek Morris, who was traded last week to Colorado along with forward Dean McAmmond and center Jeff Shantz in exchange for centers Chris Drury and Stephane Yelle. The Flames open their season Thursday at home against the Vancouver Canucks. Leopold spent the last four seasons at the University of Minnesota, helping the Golden Gophers to the 2002 NCAA championship. While serving as team captain during the 2001-02 season, he posted 48 points (20 goals, 28 assists) in 44 games en route to capturing the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's most outstanding player.
