Redskins Bowen's son improving, to join Dad in DC NFL Football 08/30/2011

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Stephen Bowen will finally get to hold his baby again.

The Washington Redskins defensive end said Tuesday that his son, born extremely premature two months ago, is doing well enough to move to the area.

``Just to have everybody here, finally,'' Bowen said. ``I've been looking forward to it for the whole month. I've only seen pictures of him. My wife tells me he's changed a lot, so I'm looking forward to it.''

Bowen's wife, Tiffany, gave birth to twins on June 28 in Dallas, where Bowen

Redskins' Jenkins tears ACL NFL Football 08/26/2011
Ashburn, VA (MySportsbook) - Washington Redskins rookie defensive end Jarvis Jenkins will apparently miss the 2011 season after suffering a torn ACL during Thursday's preseason game against Baltimore. Jenkins was hurt in the first quarter while trying to make a tackle on Baltimore's Ray Rice. He underwent an MRI exam and disclosed the severity of his injury via Twitter. "Redskin fans thanks for the support I love you all...unfortunately it is a ACL tear," Jenkins tweeted. The Redskins selected Jenkins in the se
Redskins QB situation remains unsolved NFL Football 08/26/2011

BALTIMORE (AP) - Rex Grossman and John Beck have played well enough to convince coach Mike Shanahan that either one of them would be a decent starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins.

Unfortunately, neither has done enough to distinguish himself as THE starting quarterback. So the competition will continue through next week, and perhaps even longer.

Grossman and Beck each threw for more than 100 yards and a touchdown Thursday night in a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Grossman started, and each

Redskins look to Australia for a punter NFL Football 08/24/2011
1,318 ``marks,'' 2,360 ``disposals,'' 411 ``behinds,'' 219 ``tackles'' - all in 257 games over 15 seasons with the Collingwood Magpies and the North Melbourne Kangaroos of the Australian Football League.

Now he is in the NFL as the punter for the Washington Redskins, and he spends most of the game just standing on the sideline.

``That was probably one of the biggest adjustments that I had to make,'' Rocca said. ``Apart from the terminology and learning the new rules and sport, the other adjustment was you cou

Larry Johnson signs with Dolphins NFL Football 08/23/2011

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Veteran running back Larry Johnson has signed with the Miami Dolphins after sitting out most of last season.

Johnson gained 2 yards on five carries in two games before he was released by the Washington Redskins last September. The 31-year-old has rushed for 6,221 yards and 55 scores in his career, but has played in just 16 games in the past three seasons.

In 2009 Johnson was released by the Kansas City Chiefs in November and finished the year with Cincinnati. His time in Kansas City was m

Colts close roof because of storm Headlines 08/19/2011

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indianapolis Colts have closed the roof and a window at Lucas Oil Stadium during their preseason game against the Washington Redskins because of an approaching storm.

i. Josh Johnson took the bulk of the snaps for the Buccaneers. He completed 6- of-17 passes for 105 yards and an interception. In the fourth, Johnson led the Tampa Bay on a 12-play, 84-yard drive which was capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Allen Bradford. The Patriots' first team defense gave Freeman fits early. Andre Carter, who signed with New England after the lockout following five seasons with the Washington Redskins, did not record a sack but frequently proved disruptive from his defensive end position.
Beck to start for Redskins against Colts NFL Football 08/16/2011
Washington, DC (MySportsbook) - The quarterback derby for the Washington Redskins is in full swing with John Beck slated to start Friday's preseason game against Indianapolis. Rex Grossman got the start for the team's preseason opener last week against Pittsburgh and completed 19-of-26 passes for 207 yards with a touchdown in Washington's 16-7 win. your position in nearly a decade.

That's what happened to Wake Forest outside linebacker Aaron Curry when the Seattle Seahawks selected him fourth overall in the 2009 draft.

Not since Penn State's LaVar Arrington was taken second overall by the Washington Redskins in 2000 had a college linebacker of any stripe been regarded so highly. Curry had the pedigree, winning the Butkus Award as the nation's best linebacker after the 2008 season.

Even at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, Curry has shown the type of track spee

Redskins cut K Graham after 1st preseason game Headlines 08/14/2011

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The duel between the kicking Grahams lasted all of one preseason game.

The Washington Redskins on Sunday cut Shayne Graham, leaving incumbent Graham Gano as lone remaining kicker at training camp.

Graham is the third most accurate kicker in NFL history, but he shanked a 29-yard field goal attempt and also missed a 49-yarder in Friday's win over Pittsburgh. He had also struggled in practice leading up to the game.

Gano ranked last in the NFL in field goal accuracy last year, but he was
