| (MySportsbook) - John Lackey tries to bounce back from his worst start of the season this evening, when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim conclude their four-game series with Texas at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Lackey was banged around by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday for six runs (five earned) and eight hits in six innings, as he fell to 6-2 on the season and raised his earned run average to a still-spectacular 1.93. He had been 5-0 with a 1.16 ERA in his five previous trips to the hill. The 29-year-old right-hander is 9-8 lifetime against the Rangers with 5.21 ERA in 23 starts. Texas will counter with righty Scott Feldman, who has won his last two starts. Feldman improved to 3-3 on Saturday against Baltimore, as he surrendered three runs and five hits in six innings. Feldman, who is pitching to a 4.39 ERA, will be making his first-ever start against the Halos, but has faced them nine times out of the bullpen, posting an 0-1 mark to go along with a 2.89 ERA. In the third game of this set on Wednesday, Josh Hamilton continued his amazing season by blasting a game-winning two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting Texas to a 5-4 victory. Hamilton, who leads the majors with 89 RBI, capped a three-run ninth inning as the Rangers won for the fourth time in five games. Ian Kinsler singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, while Texas teammate Michael Young moved his string to 11, also with a base hit in the first. Young finished with three hits, drove in a run and scored once. Jarrod Saltalamacchia had two RBI in the win, as the Rangers moved four games above .500 (48-44) for the first time since September 5, 2006. Warner Madrigal made his first major league start and allowed four hits and a run for the Rangers, while Jered Weaver surrendered seven hits and two runs - one earned - over six frames for Los Angeles. Francisco Rodriguez (0-2), who holds the major league record for most saves prior to the All-Star break with 35 this season, surrendered Hamilton's 20th homer of the year. Pinch-hitter Ramon Vazquez walked to start the ninth, but Kinsler fanned and Frank Catalanotto grounded out. Young then singled to left field to get Texas within a run, and he promptly stole second. Hamilton then turned on a 3-1 breaking ball and launched it over the wall in right field. Jamey Wright (5-3) was the benefactor of the rally, as he pitched two innings to record the victory. Juan Rivera homered and drove in three runs for the Angels, who have dropped the most recent two contests of this four-game set by a run. The Rangers have split their eight games with the Angels this season. |
