| === Houston Astros Team Report - June 29 === (MySportsbook) - The Houston Astros try to make it five wins in six chances over their Lone Star State rivals this afternoon when they play the rubber match of their three-game Interleague set with the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park. On Saturday, Jeriome Robertson and three relievers combined on a six-hit shutout to lead Houston to a 2-0 win. Robertson (6-3) allowed just five hits and struck out three in six-plus innings before giving way to the dominant Astros pen. Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to complete the shutout. Richard Hidalgo had two hits and a run scored for the Astros, who snapped a four-game skid. Houston won despite picking up only four hits in the contest. The win locked up the season series for the Astros, who have beaten the Rangers in four of the five meetings this season to lay claim to the Silver Boot. The award is given to the winner of the annual series between the intrastate rivals. Houston leads the all-time matchup 11-6. Ron Villone will toe the rubber today for the Astros and is still searching for his first victory of the season. In two starts this season the 33-year-old lefty is without a decision, but is pitching to a 1.46 ERA. In 12 1/3 innings this year, the Englewood, NJ native has allowed just two runs. In Monday's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Villone gave up two runs on six hits over six innings, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 7-6 loss. This will be the eight-year veteran's first start against the Rangers. Villone has faced Texas 14 times in relief and is without a decision, owning a 3.57 ERA against them. Houston has lost three of its last four at home and is 24-15 at Minute Maid Park this season. The Astros are 11-6 in 2003 interleague action. |
